The Art in Our City exhibit opening is on Thursday, June 25, 2015, in downtown Muskegon from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM at the three exhibiting venues: the Frauenthal Center’s Bettye Clark-Cannon Gallery, Smash Wine Bar & Bistro, and the Red Lotus Gallery in the Century Club Center. Awards will be presented at 8:00 P.M. at the Red Lotus Gallery. 
The Frauenthal Center and the Century Club Center have teamed up to present Muskegon’s second annual Art in Our City exhibit from June 25, 2015 to August 31, 2015. Art in Our City is an invitational exhibit featuring artists whose works were entered, but not selected, for the 87th Regional Exhibition at the Muskegon Museum of Art (MMA).
“Art in Our City allows artists to exhibit their work in a show that complements the MMA’s 87th Regional Exhibition and spreads art into the downtown Muskegon community,” commented Polly Doctor, special project coordinator for the Frauenthal Center.
The opening reception for Art in Our City will be held Thursday, 25th June from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM at the three exhibiting venues: the Frauenthal Center’s Bettye Clark-Cannon Gallery, Smash Wine Bar & Bistro and the Red Lotus Gallery in the Century Club Center.
Awards will be presented at 8:00 P.M. at the Red Lotus Gallery. The opening reception will follow the MMA’s “Meet the Artist Gallery Walk” that begins at the museum at 5:00 p.m., making for a great night in downtown Muskegon to see art and meet artists.The Art in Our City exhibition features original works of art. The exhibition and the reception are free events open to the public.
Jurors for the Art in Our City exhibit were Howard and Kathryn Clark, art experts and internationally recognized makers of fine handmade papers for artists and publishers. Selecting awards for years’ Art in our City exhibition are resident, professional artists and long-standing members of the Muskegon Center for the Arts (MCA): Michael Schaafsma, Lynnmarie Frisinger-Stribley, and Jan Grant. As founding members of the MCA and key players of The Red Lotus Gallery Curating Committee, they lend years of jurying experience, utilizing the principles of art and design; originality, unity and balance.
Shannon M. Mullally, MFA, Ph.D., is authoring the exhibit catalog and internet information. Dr. Mullally commented, “Art in Our City celebrates the diversity of Michigan artists, and yet, there is something in each piece that speaks to me about Michigan. You will have to see for yourself if you agree with me!”
